SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days – Sat 17th & Sat 24th May)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 17th May  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 24th May (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.

DESCRIPTION:Most of us have a huge fear around pruning in our gardens. \n“What if I cut off the wrong piece”??\, “What if I kill my granny’s rose”? \nAs a result\, we often avoid the whole area\, and allow our gardens to become a tangled mess. \nThe first book I bought on pruning didn’t do anything to allay these fears. The text and diagrams made the task look all very doable. However\, when I went out to the garden armed with my secateurs\, my plants didn’t look anything like the examples in the book. \n\nI think what finally got me over the crippling fear and gave me a willingness to tackle the job in hand\, was answering the following question: \n“What are my reasons for pruning (or not) any given tree/shrub?? \nThe answers to this question are many and varied and it is these same questions which we will tackle in this workshop. \n \nJoin me and learn the basics\, where you will take the secateurs into your hand\, “feel the fear” and despite that fear\, get pruning! \nWe will also look at the use and care of the various tools needed for the job.

SUMMARY:Garden Through the Seasons
DESCRIPTION:One of the great pleasures of gardening is observing the constant changing patterns of colour and form as plants move through their growing cycle. This class which will run one morning a month and will give us the opportunity to see the plant at all stages of its yearly cycle. The class is aimed at those who would like to improve their plant identification and general gardening skills. It is also for those of you who would just like to spend a nice morning in the garden with like minded people! \nTopics include: \n\nIdentification of specific plants that are at their seasonal best and their individual maintenance needs such as growing conditions;\nColour through the seasons; Managing herbaceous borders; Propagation and seed sowing;\nConfidence in using the secateurs;\nRecognizing friends from foe and dealing with accordingly;\nPropagating and seed sowing; and\,\nTrouble shooting – questions and answers on topical issues.\n\nWhile we will mainly cover plants in the ornamental garden we will also deal with topical issues in the ‘vegetable garden’. Each class will include time for some hands-on practical experience. Through our propagation and seed saving tutorials you will also have the opportunity to take home a piece of Green Road Gardens!!!! \nDates & Booking: \nThe classes will take place on the last Sunday morning of each month from 28th April to 29th September 2024 inclusive. You can purchase the monthly classes individually (€50) or as a block booking for the full 6 monthly classes (€250)\, receiving one class free. \nCost includes a home-cooked lunch and coffee breaks each day and some plants to take home.

SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days – Sat 13th & Sat 20th July)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 13th July  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 20th July (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.

DESCRIPTION:This workshop will give you the skills to start planning and setting up a productive kitchen garden\, avoiding commonly made mistakes. \nIt will include the following topics: \n\nThe location and layout of your veggie patch\nMaking raised beds\nComposting and soil fertility\nPest and disease control\nHerbs and fruit production\nSeed Saving\nplanting for the winter\n\nWe will also be sowing some vegetables which are suitable for over-wintering to give you a head start in the spring. \nIn the productive vegetable patch here at Green Road Gardens\, we will show you how to get your garden ready for winter and set up for next spring. This day is aimed at those of you who need a kick start at getting your kitchen garden up and running and also for those with some experience but looking wanting to up your game! DESCRIPTION:One of the great pleasures of gardening is observing the constant changing patterns of colour and form as plants move through their growing cycle. This class which will run one morning a month and will give us the opportunity to see the plant at all stages of its yearly cycle. The class is aimed at those who would like to improve their plant identification and general gardening skills. It is also for those of you who would just like to spend a nice morning in the garden with like minded people! \nTopics include: \n\nIdentification of specific plants that are at their seasonal best and their individual maintenance needs such as growing conditions;\nColour through the seasons; Managing herbaceous borders; Propagation and seed sowing;\nConfidence in using the secateurs;\nRecognizing friends from foe and dealing with accordingly;\nPropagating and seed sowing; and\,\nTrouble shooting – questions and answers on topical issues.\n\nWhile we will mainly cover plants in the ornamental garden we will also deal with topical issues in the ‘vegetable garden’. Each class will include time for some hands-on practical experience. Through our propagation and seed saving tutorials you will also have the opportunity to take home a piece of Green Road Gardens!!!! \nDates & Booking: \nThe classes will take place on the first Sunday morning of each month from April to September  inclusive. You can purchase the monthly classes individually (€50) or as a block booking for the full 6 monthly classes (€250)\, receiving one class free. \nCost includes a home-cooked lunch and coffee breaks each day and some plants to take home.

SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days – 19th & 26th Aug)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 19th & 26th Aug  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 26th Aug (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.
