SUMMARY:The Principles of Pruning..... A Beginners Guide
DESCRIPTION:Most of us have a huge fear around pruning in our gardens. \n“What if I cut off the wrong piece”??\, “What if I kill my granny’s rose”? \nAs a result\, we often avoid the whole area\, and allow our gardens to become a tangled mess. \nThe first book I bought on pruning didn’t do anything to allay these fears. The text and diagrams made the task look all very doable. However\, when I went out to the garden armed with my secateurs\, my plants didn’t look anything like the examples in the book. \n\nI think what finally got me over the crippling fear and gave me a willingness to tackle the job in hand\, was answering the following question: \n“What are my reasons for pruning (or not) any given tree/shrub?? \nThe answers to this question are many and varied and it is these same questions which we will tackle in this workshop. \n \nJoin me and learn the basics\, where you will take the secateurs into your hand\, “feel the fear” and despite that fear\, get pruning! \nWe will also look at the use and care of the various tools needed for the job.

DESCRIPTION:This workshop will give you the skills to start planning and setting up a productive kitchen garden\, avoiding commonly made mistakes. \nIt will include the following topics: \n\nThe location and layout of your veggie patch\nMaking raised beds\nComposting and soil fertility\nPest and disease control\nHerbs and fruit production\nSeed Saving\nplanting for the winter\n\nWe will also be sowing some vegetables which are suitable for over-wintering to give you a head start in the spring. \nIn the productive vegetable patch here at Green Road Gardens\, we will show you how to get your garden ready for winter and set up for next spring. This day is aimed at those of you who need a kick start at getting your kitchen garden up and running and also for those with some experience but looking wanting to up your game! There will be plenty of hands-on learning and lots of opportunity for question \nThe class runs from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 11th Sept. Price includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch and some plants to take home.
