DESCRIPTION:Willow is an extremely useful and versatile plant in the garden.\n\n\n\nIn this workshop you will learn how to propagate\, grow and harvest the willow. \nWe will then work on a number of projects using both fresh and seasoned rods. \nEach participant will make and take home their own willow plant support. You will also learn how to make a leaf mould basket\,  harlequin tree\, in addition to a ‘fedge’ (a cross between a fence and a hedge) from living willow. \nThe class runs from 9.30am until 5pm on Sat 28th March 2026. DESCRIPTION:This class is aimed at those of you who want to set up a kitchen garden or to improve your current one.\n\nIt will cover topics such as: \n\nPlanning your garden space\, so that you avoid common pitfalls\nBuilding raised beds\nSeed sowing\, pricking out and transplanting\nPest and disease identification and learning how to deal with them\nCompost making and soil fertility\nHerb propagation and cultivation\nCreating a fruit garden\n\nIt will run over 8 weeks on Tuesday nights from 7-9pm\, starting on Tuesday Apr 15th  and finishes on Tuesday June 3rd\, except for Tuesday 22nd April when the class will instead be run on Monday 21st April. \nClasses are very hands-on and there will be lots of time for questions. \nEach session is followed with tea\, home baking and chat!

SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days – Sat 17th & Sat 24th May)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 17th May  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 24th May (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.

SUMMARY:The Principles of Pruning..... A Beginners Guide
DESCRIPTION:Most of us have a huge fear around pruning in our gardens. \n“What if I cut off the wrong piece”??\, “What if I kill my granny’s rose”? \nAs a result\, we often avoid the whole area\, and allow our gardens to become a tangled mess. \nThe first book I bought on pruning didn’t do anything to allay these fears. The text and diagrams made the task look all very doable. However\, when I went out to the garden armed with my secateurs\, my plants didn’t look anything like the examples in the book. \n\nI think what finally got me over the crippling fear and gave me a willingness to tackle the job in hand\, was answering the following question: \n“What are my reasons for pruning (or not) any given tree/shrub?? \nThe answers to this question are many and varied and it is these same questions which we will tackle in this workshop. \n \nJoin me and learn the basics\, where you will take the secateurs into your hand\, “feel the fear” and despite that fear\, get pruning! \nWe will also look at the use and care of the various tools needed for the job.

The class is aimed at those who would like to improve their plant identification and general gardening skills. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 13th July  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 20th July (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.

We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days – 6th & 13th May)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 6th May  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough.
