DESCRIPTION:This workshop will give you the skills to start planning and setting up a productive kitchen garden\, avoiding commonly made mistakes. \nIt will include the following topics: \n\nThe location and layout of your veggie patch\nMaking raised beds\nComposting and soil fertility\nPest and disease control\nHerbs and fruit production\nSeed Saving\nplanting for the winter\n\nWe will also be sowing some vegetables which are suitable for over-wintering to give you a head start in the spring. \nIn the productive vegetable patch here at Green Road Gardens\, we will show you how to get your garden ready for winter and set up for next spring. This day is aimed at those of you who need a kick start at getting your kitchen garden up and running and also for those with some experience but looking wanting to up your game! SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days - 3rd & 10th August)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Wednesday 3rd  August (10am – 2pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Wednesday 10th August (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.

DESCRIPTION:Willow is an extremely useful and versatile plant in the garden. \nIn this workshop you will learn how to propagate\, grow and harvest the willow. \nWe will then work on a number of projects using both fresh and seasoned rods. \nEach participant will make and take home their own willow T-pee (plant support). DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials.  \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle.  \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 7th Aug (10am – 1:30pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 14th Aug (10am – 1:30pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough.

DESCRIPTION:One of the great pleasures of gardening is observing the constant changing patterns of colour and form as plants move through their growing cycle. This class which will run one morning a month and will give us the opportunity to see the plant at all stages of its yearly cycle. The class is aimed at those who would like to improve their plant identification and general gardening skills. It is also for those of you who would just like to spend a nice morning in the garden with like minded people! \nTopics include: \n\nIdentification of specific plants that are at their seasonal best and their individual maintenance needs such as growing conditions;\nColour through the seasons; Managing herbaceous borders; Propagation and seed sowing;\nConfidence in using the secateurs;\nRecognizing friends from foe and dealing with accordingly;\nPropagating and seed sowing; and\,\nTrouble shooting – questions and answers on topical issues.\n\nWhile we will mainly cover plants in the ornamental garden we will also deal with topical issues in the ‘vegetable garden’. Each class will include time for some hands-on practical experience. DESCRIPTION:For those of you who would like to lessen the amount of single-use plastics such as cling-film and sandwich bags that you use in your home\, these bees-wax wraps make a good environmental alternative. \n100% cotton or recycled material and bees wax\, pine resin and jojoba oil are used to create these wraps. The ingredients used are both anti-bacterial and anti-microbial and as such make wonderful food wraps. Each participant will go home with some wraps and the knowledge to make more either for themselves or as gifts for friends.
