DESCRIPTION:Willow is an extremely useful and versatile plant in the garden.\n\n\n\nIn this workshop you will learn how to propagate\, grow and harvest the willow. \nWe will then work on a number of projects using both fresh and seasoned rods. \nEach participant will make and take home their own willow plant support. You will also learn how to make a leaf mould basket\,  harlequin tree\, in addition to a ‘fedge’ (a cross between a fence and a hedge) from living willow. \nThe class runs from 9.30am until 5pm on Sat 28th March 2026. DESCRIPTION:On this extended weekend you will be able to completely relax and unwind\, immersing yourself in nature. Over the three days you will make a unique creation from foraged materials. This creation can be either a functional basket or a more sculptural piece.\nEach day we will go on a woodland walk to explore what nature has to offer for inclusion in your piece. We will also look at my garden and discuss the growing\, harvesting and preparation of willow\, dogwood and other garden plants for weaving. \nCost includes all materials\, lunches and coffee breaks each day. \nSat 25th to Mon 27th Oct – The class runs from 9:30 until approx. 4pm each day.

SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days – Sat 17th & Sat 24th May)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 17th May  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 24th May (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.

SUMMARY:The Principles of Pruning..... A Beginners Guide
DESCRIPTION:Most of us have a huge fear around pruning in our gardens. \n“What if I cut off the wrong piece”??\, “What if I kill my granny’s rose”? \nAs a result\, we often avoid the whole area\, and allow our gardens to become a tangled mess. \nThe first book I bought on pruning didn’t do anything to allay these fears. The text and diagrams made the task look all very doable. However\, when I went out to the garden armed with my secateurs\, my plants didn’t look anything like the examples in the book. \n\nI think what finally got me over the crippling fear and gave me a willingness to tackle the job in hand\, was answering the following question: \n“What are my reasons for pruning (or not) any given tree/shrub?? \nThe answers to this question are many and varied and it is these same questions which we will tackle in this workshop. \n \nJoin me and learn the basics\, where you will take the secateurs into your hand\, “feel the fear” and despite that fear\, get pruning! \nWe will also look at the use and care of the various tools needed for the job.

SUMMARY:Foraged Basket
DESCRIPTION:On this extended weekend you will be able to completely relax and unwind\, immersing yourself in nature. Over the three days you will make a unique creation from foraged materials. This creation can be either a functional basket or a more sculptural piece.\nEach day we will go on a woodland walk to explore what nature has to offer for inclusion in your piece. We will also look at my garden and discuss the growing\, harvesting and preparation of willow\, dogwood and other garden plants for weaving. \nCost includes all materials\, lunches and coffee breaks each day. \nSat 28th to Mon 30th Oct 2023 – The class runs from 9:30 until approx. 4pm each day.

DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials. \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle. \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 19th & 26th Aug  (10am – 3pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 26th Aug (10am – 2pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough. \nPrice includes tea/coffee on arrival and  home-cooked lunch on both days.

DESCRIPTION:Willow is an extremely useful and versatile plant in the garden. \nIn this workshop you will learn how to propagate\, grow and harvest the willow. \nWe will then work on a number of projects using both fresh and seasoned rods. \nEach participant will make and take home their own willow T-pee (plant support). You will also learn how to make a leaf mould basket in addition to a ‘fedge’ (a cross between a fence and a hedge) from living willow.

SUMMARY:Hypertufa Troughs (Two half days-3rd & 10th July)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make an inexpensive stone trough look-alike from hypertufa from easily obtained materials.  \nStone troughs can be very heavy but the use of vermiculite in our mix makes them considerably lighter and a lot easier to handle.  \nOn the first part of this workshop Sat 3rd July (10am – 1:30pm) you will sculpt your own small trough. In the second part of the workshop Sat 10th July (10am – 1:30pm) you will finish your trough using techniques to make it more natural and aged looking. We will then look at how to plant it up with succulents. You will also learn how to propagate succulents to bring home to fill your trough.
